BOB’S_GOAL
BOB’S_GOAL provides an explanation of the implementation philosophy of BOB’S_WORLD. BOB’S_GOAL is an implementation method. In addition to its implementation principles, BOB’S_GOAL provides a detailed description of a generic implementation approach to partners and to all project team participants.
BOB’S_GOAL is based on the principles of Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) defined by Coopers&Lybrand in the 1990s. The experience and results of about 150 Baan packages implemented by Schartner AG between 1993 and 2009 helped to develop BOB’S_GOAL as a pragmatic and straight-forward project management tool.
Projects may fail to a greater or lesser degree. In IT projects this is the rule rather than the exception. Some frequent pitfalls are:
- The short-term results are insufficiently defined or not at all; lack of insight in the project’s progress leads to loss of confidence in the project as a whole.
- The project scope is not exactly defined: it is too ambitious.
- The project is too complex or too big, which makes it difficult to keep a helicopter view and control the project as such.
- Top management does not support the project at crucial moments.
- Staff hardly supports the envisaged project goal or not at all.
In view of the above problems, GDPM offers a clear set of advantages:
- GDPM is change-oriented
- GDPM offers a single way to set up and work in projects
- GDPM provides clear information on the products to be delivered
- GDPM aims for the plan itself, not for its contents
- GDPM has already proved successful in a great many projects
